Around the world, governments are pouring money into national security. This can take many forms. Governments, for instance, might spend their tax revenues on militaries, cyber security, or defense against terrorism.

China has made it to several headlines lately.  For instance, President Biden had a highly anticipated call with China’s President Xi Jinping.  And then there was this week’s visit from the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan.  Worries about geopolitical instability were top of mind for many pundits covering this story.  Unfortunately, it might be China

A portmanteau is one for my favorite tools of the English language.  It sounds awfully French to be English, but I digress.  They result from blending two or more words.  Spork is probably the most utilitarian one I can think of.  You can eat a salad or bowl of cereal with that portmanteau.   Those of us in Southern California are familiar with smog (smoke + fog).&

The whole world was downgraded by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).  Does that matter? Perhaps we should first consider what the IMF is.  It is an international organization headquartered in Washington D.C.
