June 2018 Durable Goods Orders

Durable goods orders were strong in June 2018 according to data from the Census Bureau.  This indicator measuring wares expected to last three years or longer rose 1.0 percent to end the first half of the year.  This monthly uptick was a welcome reversal from the prior two periods which encountered shrinking orders.

May 2018 Durable Goods Orders

Orders for goods expected to last longer than three years deteriorated in May 2018 according to the Census Bureau.  Their report on Durable Goods Orders fell 0.6 percent, worsening for a second consecutive period.  April’s tally dropped a revised 1.0 percent (originally minus 1.7 percent).

November 2017 Durable Goods Orders

Durable Goods Orders soared in November according to data from the Census Bureau.  Aircraft orders (up 31 percent in the period) provided much of the lift in the period’s 1.3 percent improvement.  This most recent uptick followed an upwardly revised, albeit still disappointing, October tally of -0.4 percent (originally -1.2 percent).

October 2017 Durable Goods Orders

Orders for wares expected to last three years or longer fell in October according to the Census Bureau.  After jumping 2.2 percent in September, Durable Goods Orders gave back over half of the prior month’s gain, falling 1.2 percent.  This monthly setback put downward pressure on the annual trend which dropped to just 1.0 percent versus the upwardly revised count of 8.4 percent

September 2017 Durable Goods Orders

Orders for durable goods jumped in September according to the Census Bureau.  Orders for wares expected to last longer than three years increased 2.2 percent or $5.1 billion to $238.7 billion.  This increase, which is the third in four months, followed August’s uptick of 2.0 percent.  Like the prior period, commercial aircraft orders led the monthly gain.
