New Home Sales

Sales of new homes improved 1.3 percent to 719,000 units on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis in November 2019 according to the Census Bureau.  However, the uptick did require one caveat, a 23,000 unit downward revision to October’s tally to 710,000.  Year-over-year, transactions are up 16.9 percent. 

Sales of new homes declined in April 2019 according to the Census Bureau.  Falling to an annualized 673,000 units from the upwardly revised count of 723,000 (originally 692,000), this monthly decline is the first of 2019.  April’s setback hurt the year-over-year trend which fell to 7.0 percent from 10.6 percent in March.

Sales of new homes continued falling in October 2018 according to the Census Bureau.  Sales of new single-family houses dropped 53,000 to 544,000 on a seasonally adjusted annualized basis.  This is 8.9 percent less than in September and 12.0 percent below the October 2017 figure of 618,000.

Sales of new homes rose in August 2018 according to the Census Bureau.  On an annualized basis, transactions reached 629,000 units, up 3.5 percent compared to July which was revised lower to 608,000 from 627,000.  Despite a couple of week months, the level of sales is 12.7 percent higher from a year ago. 

Sales of new homes moved higher in May according to the Census Bureau.  On a seasonally adjusted basis, transactions reached 689,000 units.  This demonstrates an increase of 6.4 percent from April and 14.1 percent above the tally from a year ago.  New home sales are helping push our economy ahead.
